Is she a siren or a myth?
Chronology
Parthenope is a woman who bears the name of her city. In Greek myth, Parthenope is a siren who kills herself after failing to charm Odysseus.
In the film, Parthenope is the embodiment of the city of Naples
Her body was carried by the tide to the place where Castel dell’Ovo is now built, and therefore gave the name to the city that later became Neapolis, Naples. Heat Written by Peter Gregson Starring Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipczak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Kluda.
Oneiric, beautiful, sublime
Sorrentino creates a work of art worthy of his name and a style that belongs only to him. Sorrentino offers us a return to Italian auteur cinema.
Beautiful Naples, almost painted, but also raw, bare, poor and unhappy
Moments of silence driven by the apparition typical of Antonioni, a metaphorical and haunting sensuality in the style of Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris, a sense of mystery, darkness and suspense typical of Tornatore. In this film, Naples is for Sorrentino what Rome was for Fellini, presenting the capital as a synecdoche of national ideals and values, but also a city of power and great cultural, social and political influence.
Thank you Sorrentino ❤
Thanks to Partenope, Italian cinema woke up from the dullness of banality and commercialism.
