Jashore Government City College, situated in the heart of Jashore town, is one of the oldest and leading colleges in the South Bengal as well as in the country. History of the College

On the 17th of July 1967, under the leadership of the then MNA Mr Sardar Ahammad Ali and through the sincere efforts of a number of education lovers and philanthropists such as Mrs Ayesha Sardar, Mr A M Badrul Alam, Mr Momtazul Karim (Mozu Mia), Mr S M Abdul Ahad, Mr A H M D Mohasin Ali, Professor A F M Salimullah, Professor Kazi Abdur Rouf, Professor Fozlur Rahman, Advocate Olayet Ali Mridha and so on, Jashore City College got established. Also involved with the setting up of the college was the then Deputy Commissioner Mr A J M Kamal Uddin Chowdhury, CSP along with the Additional Deputy Commissioner and the Sub-divisional Officer. Professor A F M Salimullah took the charge of the founder Principal and in order to go on with the academic activities, he did all the necessary things including the appointment of teachers, getting approval/permission of the Education Board and the University. With Higher Secondary and Degree Pass courses in place, Honours graduation course in Political Science under Rajshahi University was introduced in 1974.
